About LegalCostCalculator.org
Free, accurate legal cost data for every US state — sourced directly from official government websites.
Our Mission
Legal costs in the United States vary dramatically by state — and finding accurate, up-to-date fee information often means digging through dozens of court websites and government PDFs. We built LegalCostCalculator.org to solve that problem.
Our goal is simple: give every person — regardless of income or legal experience — clear, accurate information about what it costs to navigate common legal processes in their state.
What We Cover
Maximum claim limits and filing fees for small claims court in all 50 states — so you know exactly what you can sue for and what it will cost.
State filing fees, annual report costs, publication requirements, and franchise taxes for forming an LLC in every state.
Divorce court filing fees, process service costs, and children's surcharges — plus information on fee waivers for low-income filers.
Maximum notary fees per acknowledgment, jurat, and oath in every state, including remote online notarization (RON) availability.
How We Source Our Data
Every data point on this site comes directly from official government sources — no third-party aggregators, no guesswork. Our primary sources include:
- Secretary of State websites — for LLC filing fees and annual report costs
- State court websites and court fee schedules — for small claims limits, filing fees, and divorce costs
- State notary regulatory agencies — for maximum notary fee schedules
Each state page links directly to its official source so you can verify the data yourself. We review and update all data regularly — see our Data Sources page for full details.
Data Accuracy & Updates
Legal fees change. States update their fee schedules, courts revise their filing costs, and legislatures adjust statutory limits. We do our best to keep data current, with our last full review completed in May 2026.
Who We Are
LegalCostCalculator.org is an independent website run by a small team passionate about making legal information accessible to everyone. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice — we provide data to help you understand costs before you seek legal services.
Some pages contain links to third-party legal service providers (formation services, online divorce platforms, notary services). These are affiliate links — we may earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no extra cost to you. Sponsored links are clearly labeled. Our data and editorial content are never influenced by affiliate relationships.
